we assumed you were having the same problem.
Our Story
Several years ago, my husband and I fell in love with the architecture of New Mexico and
Arizona. We started to convert the decorating theme of our home in Houston, Texas to a
"Southwestern" motif. We searched for information on ways to display groups
of decorative accent items that gave a southwestern, pueblo, western look to our home.
Ultimately, we wanted a little New Mexico and western oasis right here in Houston without
replacing all of our furniture.
We found stores that carried heavy solid wood furniture that
reflected a southwestern style. That was easy. But when it came to designing the accents
(table, mantle, floor and wall groupings) creating the real atmosphere of the Southwest,
we were stumped. We wanted to use some of the furniture we already had and upgrade the
surroundings to Southwest. After all, it's the accents that really give the home or office
that complete Southwest look. We wanted it to look like we had an interior decorator
design it with out the expense of hiring one.
The southwest furniture stores had a few accent items around but
they wouldn't carry much for fear of deflecting our attention from their
furniture (where
they made their money). We traveled to New Mexico and Arizona and found gift/accessory
stores everywhere. They had plenty of items but it was just shelf after shelf of pottery
or blankets/rugs or wall hangings or other accent items. But how were we going to combine
all of these items to create the right style or mood we wanted?
We bought books but most of them weren't much help unless you had
tens of thousands of dollars to spend. We talked to others in the same situation. We read
magazine articles on the subject (wherever we could find them). Then we just started
experimenting. Our friends loved what we did with the house and started asking us to give
them some pointers. We also started helping them on our trips to New Mexico and Arizona by
finding the right items for their home. Then we'd make suggestions on how to display
them.
All this led us to realize that many of you out there have the
same struggles. You want suggestions on how to obtain that decorator look but can't find a
source for the information. We hope we can help. As a result, we started
SantaFeDecor.com in April 1999.
In March 2000, we moved Santa Fe Decor
Inc. and our home to New Mexico. We found that to serve you the best, we needed to be
closer to the vendors for these products, most of whom are located in New
Mexico & Arizona.
One other issue we began to notice was that it
was hard to find Bedroom, bathroom and kitchen accessories even at stores
here in Albuquerque. That's why we have started a quest to find every
available design possible in this area for you to choose. You will find
pages and pages of these items here.
By the way if you have any problem with this site (it doesn't
view well on your browser, the links don't go where they should or anything else) please
so we can make sure that it serves everyone well.
